Chapter 30

Saturday had finally come around, and more than anything else, Eva was looking forward to an evening spent at The Inn with friends. Eva had been busy in The Potter’s Bolthole all day and she still hadn’t managed to see Fitz, but knowing he’d be at the pub tonight helped ease her mind. Perhaps it would be better if there were others present initially, it might help break the ice.

After a hectic last rush hour, she gladly turned the door sign to ‘Closed’ and gave a sigh of relief. She was tired from being on her feet all day and was desperate to eat, shower, put on her glad rags and go for that well-earned drink. Noticing the shelves were virtually empty again, she quickly pulled out the box with the rest of the vases from under the workbench and decided to replenish at least the top one before locking up the shop. Gingerly climbing the stepladders, with two vases in her hands, she reached out to put them securely at the back.

Mid-reach, she lost balance. The ladder wobbled and with a scream, Eva tumbled down onto the floor with a thud.
